ESO-MIA Unit Administers FGD to Evaluate SULAT Project’s Effectiveness Among Target Beneficiaries

Project leaders from the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) received recommendations during the 2026 USM Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Midyear Monitoring Review, with 57 research and extension projects evaluated.
Facilitated by the Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (IPTTBDO), the three-day review gathered project leaders from the University’s Basic Research, Applied Research, and Extension programs to present the progress of their respective projects to the panel of evaluators.
The projects that were evaluated include 18 Basic Research, 21 Applied Research, and 18 Extension projects. Sixteen panel evaluators from various disciplines assessed each presentation and provided recommendations based on the projects’ progress, implementation, and expected outcomes.
The Basic Research category covered Basic Science Research, Assessment and Baseline Studies, and Social Research. Dr. Florence Roy Salvaña, Dr. Tamie Solpot, Dr. Elizabeth Molina, Dr. Lothy Casim composed the panel of evaluators.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ruben Tagare Jr., Dr. Frans Bert Gomez, and Prof. Ellen Joy Farala, were the evaluators for the Social Research.
Moreover, Dr. Ma. Teodora Cabasan, Prof. Bernadith Borja, Dr. Lydia Pascual, and Dr. Jalaloden Marohom, evaluated the Applied Research projects.
Dr. Glyn Magbanua, Dr. Mary Joy Cañolas, Dr. Khris June Callano, Prof. Anamarie Uyangurin, and Prof. Willie Jones Saliling stood as evaluators under extension category.
Among the recommendations raised by the evaluators were improving research methods, strengthening monitoring and evaluation plans, supporting findings with sufficient data, and ensuring that project objectives, activities, timelines, and expected outputs are consistent.
The panel also encouraged project leaders to improve project documentation, address implementation delays, validate research data, and demonstrate the value of their work to partner communities and other intended beneficiaries. They likewise recommended exploring publication, technology transfer, commercialization, and intellectual property protection for research outputs where applicable.
The annual Midyear Monitoring Review provides project leaders with an opportunity to present the status of their research and extension projects and receive feedback that will help guide the completion of their remaining activities.
