Opisyal na inilunsad ng University of Southern Mindanao (USM) ang Center for Human Kinetics and Wellness Studies (CHKWS) noong Agosto 12, 2026.
Dumalo sa paglulunsad si Dr. Debbie Marie B. Verzosa, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension (VPRDE), kasama ang mga miyembro ng USM Research and Development team, dean ng College of Human Kinetics, mga faculty member, at mga estudyante.
Pangungunahan ni Dr. Ruben L. Tagare, Jr. ang center, na itinatag sa bisa ng USM Board of Regents Resolution No. 10, Series of 2026. Sakop ito ng Office of the VPRDE at magsisilbing isa sa mga research platforms ng Unibersidad.
Itinatag ang CHKWS upang palakasin ang lumalawak na research productivity ng USM sa Physical Education, Human Kinetics, Sports Science, Health, at Wellness. Layunin nitong gawing mas organisado ang mga research initiative, palakasin ang national at international collaborations, linangin ang mga batang researcher, at gamitin ang scientific knowledge sa pagbuo ng mga makabuluhang programa para sa mga paaralan, komunidad, at iba pang stakeholder.
Isusulong ng Center ang research sa pamamagitan ng tatlong cluster: Physical Activity and Mental Wellness; Human Movement and Performance Optimization; at Innovations in Physical Education and Pedagogy.

USM Establishes Research Center for Human Kinetics, Wellness Studies
The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) officially launched the Center for Human Kinetics and Wellness Studies (CHKWS) on August 12, 2026.
Dr. Debbie Marie B. Verzosa, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension (VPRDE), joined the members of the USM Research and Development team, College of Human Kinetics dean, faculty members, and students during the launching.
Dr. Ruben L. Tagare, Jr., will spearhead the center. It was established through USM Board of Regents Resolution No. 10, Series of 2026. The Center operates under the Office of the VPRDE, serving as a University-wide research platform.
The establishment of CHKWS builds on USM’s growing research productivity in Physical Education, Human Kinetics, Sports Science, Health, and Wellness. It seeks to institutionalize research initiatives, strengthen national and international collaborations, develop young researchers, and translate scientific knowledge into meaningful programs for schools, communities, and other stakeholders.
The Center will advance research through three initial clusters: Physical Activity and Mental Wellness; Human Movement and Performance Optimization; and Innovations in Physical Education and Pedagogy.
