Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) of the Kabacan District Jail in Brgy. Kayaga, Kabacan, Cotabato Province participated in Session 1 of Component 2 (“Crafting Your Future: Application Letter Writing Workshop”) under the extension project “Pathways to Reintegration: Empowering Persons Deprived of Liberty through Skills Training and Personal Development” of the Department of Criminal Justice Education. This extension activity is in collaboration with the Department of English Language and Literature of the College of Arts and Social Sciences. Conducted on May 08, 2026, the first session focused on strengthening employment readiness through professional writing skills, particularly in job application letter and resume writing.

The first lecture-workshop, titled “Writing Job Application Letters for Employment Readiness,” was facilitated by Prof. Rezeille May C. Amilbahar, a faculty member from the Department of English Language and Literature. During the session, participants learned the proper structure, format, and professional language used in writing job application letters. The discussion emphasized the importance of presenting qualifications, skills, and a willingness to work in a clear and professional manner. Participants were also guided on how to organize the different parts of an application letter and communicate effectively with potential employers.

Meanwhile, the second lecture-workshop on resume writing was facilitated by Prof. April Rose T. Butalid, also a faculty member from the Department of English Language and Literature. This session focused on the essential components of a resume, including personal information, educational background, trainings, skills, and work experiences.

As part of the workshop proper, participants drafted and revised their own application letters and resumes with the assistance of the facilitators and resource speakers. Through continuous guidance and feedback, they were able to improve the organization, wording, and professional tone of their outputs. The activity also provided a supportive environment where participants were encouraged to recognize their skills, strengths, and potential for future employment.

The training-workshop highlighted the importance of employment readiness programs in empowering PDLs and restoring hope for a productive reintegration into society. By equipping participants with practical communication skills and professional writing knowledge, the activity served as an important step toward preparing them for future job opportunities after release.
