The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) students placed First Runner-Up in an Inter-school Brewing Competition: Mt. Apo Pour-Over Challenge on October 17, 2026, at Abreeza Mall in Davao City.

Representing USM, Carl Francis Mantac, Cyrus Mantac, and Charles Patrick Revilla competed with 15 teams from different schools across the region. The competition was organized by Specialty Coffee Depot in partnership with Blue Beans Society, BACOFA, and Cuprank.

The competition gave young talents an opportunity to put their brewing skills to the test while learning more about the art and science behind specialty coffee. It also highlighted the unique character of locally grown Mt. Apo coffee and encouraged young coffee enthusiasts to learn from one another.

The USM team received guidance from coaches Dr. Apple R. Ureta and William T. Gonzaga, with Jai Maquerme serving as playing coach and Sir AJ Quitel as trainer.
