KABACAN, COTABATO — The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) College of Business, Development Economics and Management (CBDEM) conducted a specialized training-workshop on the Packaging, Labeling, Branding, and Digital Marketing of Maguindanaon Delicacies on June 29, 2026, at Brgy. Cuyapon, Kabacan, Cotabato. The activity forms part of the extension project “CBDEM Delicacies: Capacity Building, Demonstration and Enterprise Development of Maguindanaon Delicacies – Phase III,” which aims to empower local communities, preserve cultural heritage, and promote grassroots entrepreneurship.

As a fundamental part of the activity, Dr. Irving T. Fajarito Jr. explained the rationale behind the training.

“For today, we are very happy to see you participate in this training. To achieve our aim as business owners na makapagbenta, lahat na mga ituturo namin sa inyo ngayon gaya ng pag-label, pag-pack at marami pa ay makakatulong sa inyo sa paglago ng inyong negosyo in the future,” Fajarito expressed.

A pre-test evaluation followed to assess the baseline knowledge of the participants, facilitated by Dr. Analyn A. Gonzales, a faculty member of the Department of Business Administration and Component 1 leader.

Kicking off the training, the team structured two comprehensive technical sessions aimed at equipping local producers with modern market competencies. Ms. Catherine D. Ajero, a DTI Negosyo Center Development Analyst, led the first training session on the Branding, Product Packaging, and Labeling of Maguindanaon Delicacies. This was followed by a session on Digital Marketing Using Social Media Platforms, spearheaded by CBDEM Dean Dr. Cheryl Y. Dulay.

To measure the knowledge gained by the participants and gather feedback, Dr. Mitzi Aileen M. Alba administered a post-test and training evaluation, followed by an open forum that sparked conversations on overcoming common marketing challenges and applying new strategies to local enterprises. The day-long event concluded with a closing message from project leader Dr. Roy B. Gacus.

“Let us empower our communities and preserve our culture by promoting entrepreneurship,” he said.

The successful conduct of the training-workshop was led by component leaders Dr. Analyn A. Gonzales (Component 1 leader) and Dr. Esmaira G. Gunsayan (Component 2 leader). The activities were also facilitated by CBDEM faculty members and partner organization heads: Prof. Jowhina M. Calabroso, Prof. Carla B. Cayabyab, Dr. Lotis D. Cubin, Prof. Lawrence Arjay T. Mamburam, Prof. Glenn M. Demillo, and Ms. Zaynab Ampatuan (MORO PCore President).

As the CBDEM Delicacies Phase III project successfully rolled out Components 1 and 2, the team is now gearing up for the implementation of the remaining components, focusing on financial literacy and supply chain integration. This holistic approach to business development underscores the university’s long-standing commitment to providing sustainable livelihoods to its target beneficiaries, equipping them with the necessary skills to maintain long-term business viability and competitive growth in the local market.
