KABACAN, COTABATO — The University Laboratory School (ULS) of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) officially welcomed its freshmen on July 22, 2026, through an immersive campus tour designed for both incoming Grade 7 (Junior High School) and Grade 11 (Senior High School) students.
The tour commenced at the ULS building as its first station. Guided by ULS Guidance Coordinator Ms. Hayden N. Pingoy, the students explored key academic facilities, including classrooms, libraries, and science laboratories.
“This campus tour was organized to reinforce the orientation by giving you firsthand exposure to the different offices and laboratories you may need all throughout the school year,” Ms. Pingoy emphasized during the walkthrough.
The activity then transitioned to the USM Infirmary located at the College of Medicine (COM), where students were briefed on available campus healthcare services, including medical consultations, physical check-ups, and emergency assistance.
Following the infirmary visit, the tour proceeded to the Kundo E. Pahm Learning Resource Center (KEPLRC), where students were introduced to the library’s extensive research facilities and digital resources. “Masaya po kami dahil sa tour, nalaman namin na pwede pala kaming mag-stay sa library para mag-scan ng books during break time,” shared one of the incoming Grade 7 students.
To familiarize the freshmen with enrollment procedures and other administrative processes, the students observed live transactions at the Cashier and Registrar’s offices in the Administration Building.
A major highlight of the tour was a visit to the DA-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) at USM. The freshmen enjoyed an interactive walkthrough of the carabao facility while sampling and learning about the various carabao dairy products produced by the center.
The final stop brought the students back to the ULS building, where they received a warm welcome from the Student Body Council (SBC). Looking forward to a dynamic and fruitful high school journey, the freshmen were introduced to various student organizations and co-curricular clubs.
The activity was organized through the collaborative efforts of ULS and the USM Research, Development and Extension (RDE) Unit, with Education Program Specialists I Aldrin I. Sanama and Jayson S. Balthazar serving as event facilitators. Overall, the tour proved to be a vital stepping stone in easing the freshmen’s transition into the vibrant USM community, fostering school pride, and preparing them for the upcoming academic year.
