October 29, 2026
University Laboratory School-University of Southern Mindanao (ULS-USM) student General Marc M. Bangoy, 17, won five gold medals in two Philippine tournaments and qualified for the 2026 Asian Youth Championship in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Bangoy ranked first in the men’s recurve under-18 qualifying evaluation during the World Archery Philippines tournament held on October 23–29 in Bacolod City, securing his slot in the international competition scheduled for December 14–22.He won two gold medals in the Archery Grassroots Development Program (AGDP) Cup Leg 4, topping both the qualifying round and Olympic round of the recurve men under-20 category. He also took silver in the mixed team event.
In the 2026 Philippine Archery Cup (PAC), Bangoy added three gold medals in the recurve men open category, winning the qualifying round, Olympic round, and mixed team event.

His performance in the PAC open category also puts him in contention for selection to the 2027 Philippine Team, as the tournament forms part of the evaluation process for the next national lineup.
Despite the demands of competitive archery, Bangoy continues his studies at ULS-USM through a modular learning arrangement, according to his mother. He also trains under a Korean coach hired to prepare Philippine archers for international competitions.
As Bangoy turns 18 next year and moves beyond the youth age category, his coach is also eyeing him for opportunities in the senior division. His possible inclusion in the Philippine team for the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games remains subject to the national team’s selection process.
Bangoy will compete in the Asian Youth Championship in December, where he will represent the Philippines against archers from other Asian countries.
