San Miguel Foods is exploring a partnership with the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) for future internship and employment opportunities for students and graduates in Animal Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Food Technology, Engineering, and other related fields. The potential collaboration was discussed during the company’s visit to the USM Office of the President on September 17, 2026, in Kabacan, Cotabato.
Quality Assurance Head Basilisa Zafra and HR Assistant Mary Ruth Sheena Basoc represented San Miguel Foods during the meeting with USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel and university representatives.
According to Zafra and Basoc, they visited selected universities, including USM, to explore opportunities for academic partnerships.
Zafra also mentioned that San Miguel Foods has noted the good performance of USM graduates working for them, leading the company to explore a possible partnership with the University.
The meeting also covered the possible return of internship or on-the-job training opportunities, which would allow USM students to gain exposure to actual workplace settings. The San Miguel Foods representatives noted that internship programs, which were affected during the pandemic, are now being reopened.
For employment opportunities, the company discussed possible openings in quality assurance, laboratory work, processing, engineering, and farm operations.
San Miguel Foods shared that graduates of Food Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, and related programs can apply for positions in quality assurance and laboratory work. Engineering graduates may find opportunities in processing, automation, and other plant operations.
Animal Science graduates may be considered for positions in the company’s poultry operations, including its company-owned farms, where they can gain exposure to modern poultry production systems.
Zafra also shared that the company emphasizes work attitude, eagerness to learn, and commitment among employees. She added that employees are encouraged to be flexible and open to handling responsibilities beyond their specific assignments.
Meanwhile, President Dr. Pimentel expressed the university’s interest in establishing a partnership with San Miguel Foods. He said a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) will soon be prepared to formalize the collaboration.
He also invited San Miguel Foods to participate in USM’s annual job fairs to provide students and graduates with opportunities to learn about available positions and connect directly with the company.
The meeting also explored other areas of collaboration between USM and San Miguel Foods that could benefit both institutions.
