KABACAN, COTABATO — An aspiring buffalo farmer couple from Antipas visited the Department of Agriculture–Philippine Carabao Center at the University of Southern Mindanao (DA-PCC at USM) on September 21, 2026, to gain practical knowledge on sustainable buffalo production and management.
The couple, Mr. Conrad and Ms. Janice Provida, owns a farming site in Antipas, Cotabato, which is recognized as a Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) under the Agricultural Training Institute XII (ATI XII).
During the visit, the couple met with DA-PCC at USM Center Director Dr. Geoffray R. Atok to discuss the requirements and procedures for availing of the Buffalo Dispersal and Entrustment Program. The courtesy call focused on key aspects of sustainable livestock management, including proper farm planning, securing sufficient pasture and forage resources for ruminants, ensuring a reliable water supply, providing proper animal care, and adopting science-based production practices to guarantee a productive and sustainable buffalo enterprise.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of the carabao facility and forage production areas, which provided the couple with firsthand exposure to practical farm operations to ensure the efficient adoption of best management practices on their own farm.
With their farming site already recognized as an ATI XII Learning Site for Agriculture, the proposed buffalo production initiative is expected to further strengthen the farm as a hub for agricultural learning, technology demonstration, and knowledge sharing among local farmers and stakeholders. This underscores the university’s commitment to advancing community empowerment, agricultural development, and inclusive rural growth through science-based livestock interventions.
