The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) hosted 71 farmers from the Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council (MAFC) of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, for a three-day Local Study Mission and Learning Activity from November 19 to 21, 2024. The visit, as requested, aimed to enhance the delegates’ knowledge and skills in advanced agricultural and fishery technologies, with a focus on sustainable farming practices and organic agriculture.

Among the participants were members of the MAFC, Farmers Association Federated Presidents, and staff of the Municipal Agriculture Office.

Before the learning mission commenced, Dr. Glyn G. Magbanua, Director of the Extension Services Office (ESO), welcomed the group, introduced USM’s strict policies—particularly the ‘No Single-Use Plastics’ rule. In her opening remarks, Dr. Magbanua extended her best wishes to the group, encouraging them to immerse themselves in the learning opportunities provided during their stay. She emphasized USM’s commitment to collaboration, saying, “USM is always willing to assist and form partnerships with you. Sana po ay marami kayong matutunan, at kapag kayo po ay may kailangan, kami po ay lagging handang tumulong.”

During the three-day activity, the delegates visited USM’s model farms, research facilities, and demonstration sites, which showcased high-quality crops and livestock.

USM researchers and faculty members facilitated interactive sessions, sharing their expertise in good agricultural practices, innovative technologies, and production strategies.
