The University of Southern Mindanao – University Student Government (USM-USG) was recognized as one of the Top 3 Youth Financial Inclusion (YFI) Ambassadors in the Philippines after winning the Best Action Plan for Mindanao in a national competition organized by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on March 28, 2025, in Metro Manila.
Spearheaded by BSP’s Financial Inclusion Steering Committee, the month-long event focused on promoting digital financial solutions among the youth. It gathered student leaders from various state universities and challenged them to create action plans that advance financial inclusion and improve the financial well-being of young Filipinos.
The USM team, composed of USG President Kenny Floyd Montelija, Senator Zean Ernest Ross, and Secretary Maydelyn Que, developed a comprehensive proposal that leverages digital finance tools to help the youth manage money effectively and access essential financial services. Their action plan stood out among multiple entries submitted from universities across Mindanao.
Alongside USM, Cavite State University (Luzon) and Southern Leyte State University (Visayas) were also recognized for their outstanding proposals. The competition underscored the vital role of young leaders in driving financial inclusion and supporting the country’s vision for a financially empowered generation.
