To further enrich students’ knowledge and strengthen their advocacy skills, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) in partnership with PhilHealth, organized the “Student Advocates Empowerment Series: Universal Health Care (UHC) and Konsulta Education” on March 25-26, 2025, at the University Commercial Building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
A discussion on the UHC framework and the Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama (KonSulTa) Package — PhilHealth’s primary care benefit package transpired. Meanwhile, Ms. Lovely Joy Nuñez from PhilHealth delivered a session on effective public speaking. She emphasized the importance of maintaining proper posture, using natural hand gestures, and making eye contact. Furthermore, Nuñez highlighted common pitfalls when engaging with the audience.
The activity aims to equip students with valuable insights into UHC and the Konsulta Program, as well as build a more health-conscious and well-informed student community.
Spearheaded by PhilHealth officials and facilitated by the Office of the Student Affairs, through Dr. Ma. Leida M. Donque, the OSA Director, 18 students from various colleges actively participated in engaging activities such as quiz bowls, tongue twister challenges, and a Zumba session.
As a result of the partnership, the student advocates are now set to share their awareness on PhilHealth’s programs and services. Moreover, the participants are expected to conduct information drive to their respective colleges.
