Kabacan, Cotabato – Participants from the Philippine Association of Chemistry Students-Mindanao Chapter (PACSMIN) toured the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) on February 21, 2025, as part of the Interstice Chemistry Convention 2025, hosted by USM Chemistry Society.

PACSMIN coordinated with the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension (OVPRDE), University of Southern Mindanao Agricultural Research and Development Center (USMARDC), and Extension Services Office (ESO) to facilitate the tour and ensure a smooth collaboration between the visiting participants and the university.

The tour highlighted key academic and research facilities of the university, including the Science and Technology (S&T) Building, the USM Library, and the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC).

Selected BS Tourism Management students from the College of Human Ecology and Food Sciences facilitated the S&T and USM Library tours. Meanwhile, representatives from ESO and the Research and Development Office (RDO) led the tour at the USMARDC.

Participants included chemistry students from the following chemistry societies across Mindanao:

  • Caraga State University Kapnayan
  • Central Mindanao University Chemical Society
  • Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology ChemEd Society
  • Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology Chemistry Society
  • Mindanao State University – Marawi Chemical Society
  • University of Southern Mindanao Chemistry Society
  • University of Immaculate Conception Chemistry Society
  • Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan Chemistry Society

Ms. Arissa Gin N. Duran, a chemistry student from CSU, expressed her appreciation for the educational tour at the university, highlighting its relevance to their academic work.

“This tour is very helpful for us, especially as we are currently working on our thesis proposals. It was valuable to interact with researchers and project leaders who have conducted significant studies,” she shared.

The tour aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of chemistry-related research, innovation, and academic resources at USM.
