In a recent 27th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Regional Elimination, Curt Justin T. Marzo, a first year Bachelor of Science in Chemistry student, clinched the 4th place among a pool of 20 provincial winners from all over the SOCCSKSARGEN Region on November 10, 2023, in Koronadal City.

According to Marzo, his journey to success in the competition was undoubtedly a collaborative effort, with guidance provided by his coach.

It was a tough competition, and I’m honored to have secured 4th place. It’s a testament to the support [provided by] my teachers, the resources, my coach, and the university for the opportunity.” Marzo underscored

Prof. Honey Vincent Valle, an expert in Statistics education from the College of Science and Mathematics, shared insights into the preparation process. She emphasized the importance of statistical learning.

Talking with UPRIO staff, Prof. Valle explained the importance the understanding of principles and applying them in various scenarios as one of the keys in learning the formulas, along with the review and practices. She also expressed her gratitude to the university for the opportunity given to her.

The Philippine Statistic Quiz (PSQ) is an annual competition organized by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc (PSAI). It helps the various academe showcase their talents regarding statistics.

As the university celebrates the achievement, it is clear that it is not just a testament to individual skill but also reflects the dedication of educators and the supportive environment that encourages academic excellence.
