In a heartwarming display of collaboration and commitment to advancing agricultural practices, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) Agricultural Research and Development Center (ARDC) recently celebrated a significant milestone—the turnover ceremony of Corn Seed Laboratory Equipment. This momentous event, conducted in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) under the leadership of Economic Security Coordinator Ms. Christine Plaza, marks a substantial leap forward in agricultural development.

On April 2, 2024, at the USM-ARDC conference room, representatives from both USM and ICRC gathered to reaffirm their shared dedication to enhancing agricultural practices. Dr. Mary Joy S. Cañolas, Dr. Ma. Teodora N. Cabasan, and Prof. Bryan Lloyd P. Bretaña, representing USM, expressed heartfelt gratitude to ICRC for their steadfast support from October 2023 to March 2024. They underscored ICRC’s crucial role, facilitated through USM-ARDC, in assisting farmers in Brgy. Saniag, Ampatuan, Maguindanao, and providing cutting-edge seed laboratory equipment to USM-ARDC.

Ms. Christine Plaza, in her role as ICRC’s Economic Security Coordinator, highlighted USM’s unwavering commitment to leveraging expertise in corn crop management for the direct benefit of recipients in Brgy. Saniag. Ms. Plaza concluded her remarks with optimism, reaffirming ICRC’s dedication to showcasing the transformative impact of development initiatives in the region.

ICRC’s generous contribution comprised a total of six seed laboratory equipment units, donated to USM-ARDC with the expectation that USM would utilize them for seed testing and various research and development endeavors aimed at empowering farmers across Mindanao.

The ceremonial turnover was also attended by Dr. Debbie Marie B. Verzosa, Dr. Jurhamid C. Imlan, and Dr. Efren E. Magulama. Additionally, the Corn Project Team, led by Dr. Mary Joy S. Cañolas, Dr. Efren E. Magulama, Ms. Nenita E. Olero, and Ms. Janice M. Bangoy, played a pivotal role in facilitating the event. This fruitful partnership was made possible with the full support and guidance of USM President Dr. Francisco Gil N. Garcia, who fervently advocates for agricultural development initiatives.
