Kabacan, Cotabato — The University of Southern Mindanao through the Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer, and Business Development Office (IPTTBDO) in partnership with the RAISE SOCCSKSARGEN Project, conducted a Seminar – Workshop on Evaluating Technology Readiness for Effective Transfer and Utilization at the USM Extension Service Office (ESO) last August 20, 2025.

The activity was organized as part of USM’s efforts to strengthen the utilization and commercialization of its research outputs. Dr. Jalaloden B. Marohom, Director of USM IPTTBDO presented a comprehensive discussion on the nine levels of Technology Readiness, their role in assessing the maturity of technologies, and the possible commercialization pathways that researchers can pursue to ensure their innovation are utilized and brough closer to market application

Participants actively presented and assessed their own technologies during the workshop. By determining their TRL, they gained valuable insights on areas for improvement and learned how to align their research outputs with industry and community need. The session underscored that university – generated technologies should not remain confined within laboratories but must be effectively utilized and commercialized to create meaningful impact in society.

The initiative reaffirms USM’s commitment to advancing innovation, supporting technology – based enterprises, and ensuring that research – driven technologies contribute to the growth of industries and the development of communities.
