The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) welcomed Philippine Normal University (PNU) on August 4, 2025, at the Office of the President, USM Administrative Building, Kabacan, Cotabato.
Aligned with RA 11713, also known as the Excellence in Teacher Education Act, the visit aimed to ask permission to Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, USM President, for USM to participate in the conduct of a national study titled Profiling of Teacher Education: Scoping and Scanning of Teacher Education in the Country (Phase 2). The study, spearheaded by the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) and Research Institute for Teacher Quality (RITQ), partnered with PNU through its Educational Policy Research and Development Office (EPRDO).
The research team, composed of Dr. Aileen C. Park, faculty member at PNU-Mindanao, along three PNU students, were tasked to gather faculty demographics, teaching practices, and career progression of three regions in Mindanao including Region XII and USM was their first.

As a champion of academic and research excellence himself, Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, USM President offered his support through permitting the conduct of the study to possible participants in the campus.
USM continually shows its support to cultivating excellence through contributing to the body of knowledge. Participating in the study, USM not only helped the team of researchers but to Teacher Education Council (TEC) and especially, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as well.
