After qualifying to the Sakura Science Exchange Program in Japan set to commence on November 2025, Miles Angelo P. Sodejana, a third year Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics student from the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), was accepted to the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS) Theoretical and Computational Astrophysics (TCA) Summer Student Program 2025 in Taiwan. Sodejana is the only Filipino among 12 students who qualified to the program.
The NCTS-TCA aims to provide research experiences to undergraduate students and equip them with basic theoretical and computational skills. students will be working under the supervision of domestic astrophysicists, on a wide range of topics from cosmology to planet formation. Participants will gain hands on experience in frontier techniques in astronomy, problem solving skills, and numerical programming. The program will start on July 1 to August 29, 2025.
The summer program includes activities such as a three days (July 1-3) workshop at National Taiwan University (NTU), followed by two month (July 1– Aug 31) full-time research program, and the final oral presentation scheduled on August 28-29 at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU). At the end of the program, participants are required to present their results publicly.
