July 19, 2024Prof. Ruben L. Tagare, Jr., a faculty member from the Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (ISPEAR) of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), and Dr. Jomar B. Esto from the USM-PALMA Cluster Campuses won top awards during the 7th International Conference of the International Organization for Health, Sports, and Kinesiology (IOHSK) at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) on July 15–19, 2024.
Prof. Tagare, Jr. won the Outstanding Oral Presentation Award for his research paper, “PATH-Fit in Philippine Higher Education: Exploring Challenges and Suggestions of Physical Education Teachers Towards Strategic Interventions”. Meanwhile, Dr. Esto won the Outstanding Teaching Demonstration Award for his demonstration on “Fundamental Dance Steps in Folkdance.” Both awards came with a cash prize.
The said faculty members participated in various sessions led by experts in sports, physical education, kinesiology, and sports medicine from the United States, Korea, Japan, and the Philippines.
At the end of the international conference, both professors expressed gratitude to USM, IOHSK, and the University of Santo Tomas- Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (UST IPEA) for the opportunity to share their work and learn from international experts. They emphasized the value of returning new ideas to their students and colleagues.
Guided by its theme, “Global Harmony in Motion: Unleashing the Power of International Collaboration in Advancing Health, Sports, and Kinesiology Through Technology and Research,” the event brought together researchers, scholars, and educators from thirty-three (33) universities across eight countries.
