With rubber experts, retirees, researchers and faculty researchers around, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) hosted a planning session for rubber research on February 12, 2024, at Skryoom, Administration Bldg, USM, Kabacan.

In particular, the session addressed deficiencies in the rubber sector and ensured that research was undertaken by the Philippine Rubber Research Institute’s (PRRI) goals. It also sought to set the direction for future research activities.

Inspired by creative and sustainable techniques, the event emphasized the need to address issues specific to rubber farming, including marketing, the decline in rubber producers in the current generation, and cultivation.

Participants explored the complexity of sustainable production management and cultural practices, breeding and crop improvement, crop protection, and socioeconomic challenges after providing an overview of the status of rubber research today.

During the session, results confirmed the position of USM as a driving force behind industry advancement by highlighting significant gaps and opening the door for cooperative projects.
