March 31, 2025
The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) opened its doors venue for the Mindanao Caravan of the University of the Philippines Professional School for Agriculture and the Environment (UP PSAE) to promote University of the Philippines Los Baños’ (UPLB’s) graduate degree programs in Mindanao on March 26, 2025, at the College of Agriculture Annex Audio Visual Room (CA AVR), USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

UP PSAE presented admission process and graduate programs, namely PhD and MS degrees in Agriculture and Environment, Development Communication, and Public Affairs Development.
As a leading educational provider institution in Mindanao, USM was chosen as one of the strategic partners for this initiative, given its relevant academic program offerings and research contributions in agriculture, environmental science, and related fields.

In an interview, Sheryl A. Yap, Director of UP PSAE, encouraged USM faculty members, students, and professionals to pursue graduate studies at UPLB through UP PSAE. Additionally, she said that the initiative is not to compete with State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Mindanao, but rather promote academic programs that are needed and not offered by local SUCs. These programs are designed to accommodate working professionals with weekend class schedules to allow better work-study balance.
Through the UP PSAE Mindanao Caravan, USM continues to strengthen academic linkages with UPLB and ensures that agricultural and environmental sectors in Southern Philippines thrive to advance education, research, and professional development.
