USM, KABACAN – The University of Southern Mindanao-Main Campus has officially opened the newly refurbished University Learning Resource Center (ULRC) during the Ribbon Cutting and Blessing Program on August 5, 2019.

The improvement and renovation of the university’s library was based on the concepts and model of Library 4.0 Environment which is intelligence-based, massive data, augmented reality, context aware, cutting-edge displays, and infinite creative space. This conformation of 21st century learning resource captures the interest of the students, faculty, alumni, university population and the outside researchers as the 21st century readers.

In her speech during the opening program, Director of Libraries Dr. Anita C. Sornito emphasized that the adaptation of Library 4.0 on the idea of context-aware technology has something to do with unlimited access, open source, free and big data, cloud service, access to e-books and electronics charges. She also cited that Librarians 4.0 are now more trained, competent, innovative, technically skilful and creative.

Dr. Sornito also expressed her gratitude to the university President and all the people behind this achievement. “A lot of universities have dreamed of having a library like this but theirs is only a dream, ours is real”, she quoted.

Meanwhile, University President Dr. Francisco N. Garcia explained that the resource fund used in the replenishing of the library was not from the government but from the university’s 40 million collected resource generations from the administrative cost of research over the years shared together with USM-Kidapawan City Campus. Dr. Garcia also noted that the university is catering more suggestions for a more improvements of library. He further encouraged the students of the university to frequently visit the library. “These improvements will mean nothing if students will not come and use the library”, he denoted.

ULRC is open from 7 am- 6 pm Monday to Friday and 7 am-12 pm in Saturday.

Also gracing the event were former USM President Dr. Kundo E. Pahm, SUC Vice President Dr. Palasig U. Ampang, OIC-Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Nicolas A. Turnos, VP for Administration and Finance Dr. Lope E. Dapun, VP for Research, Development and Extension Dr. Cayetano C. Pomares, VP for Resource Generation and Entrepreneurial Services Dr. Alimen W. Sencil , Chairman of University Library Committee Dr. Abubakar A. Murray, members of Administrative Council and selected student led-organizations. 

Moreover, USM is the first state university in the region to achieve a more inclusive, innovative and interconnected library.
