The University of Southern Mindanao played an active role in the Council of International Relations Officers (CIRO) XII Annual Oath-Taking and Induction Ceremony on January 17, 2025, at Cinco Niñas, Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
Representing USM, Prof. Bryan Lloyd Bretaña, the newly inducted CIRO XII President, pledged to enhance collaboration among higher educational institutions in Region XII.
The event underscored the critical role of international partnerships in fostering educational progress. Keynote speaker Dr. Rody P. Garcia, Director IV and Officer-in-Charge of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office XII, highlighted the transformative potential of cooperation and innovation. In his address, he also noted that according to the Internationalization Champions of Nation-Building and Sustainability (ICONS) International Ranking Awards, only one higher education institution (USM) received recognition. He expressed hope that this number would increase in the coming years.
The ceremony also included the formal presentation of CIRO XII’s leadership. Following the ceremony, the council held a meeting to discuss the Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives, Constitutional By-Laws, committee members and leaders, and other important matters.
Beyond its formalities, the event provided a platform for fellowship and networking, strengthening ties among leaders in the academic community. USM’s prominent role in the proceedings reaffirmed its commitment to regional educational development and leadership in shaping the future of higher education in Region XII.
