USM Showcases Research Facilities to Visiting Chemistry Societies

To affirm its commitment to research, development, and extension in the agricultural and fisheries sector and in cognizance of the importance of collaboration, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) joined other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and other relevant institutions in the region during the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing of the Agriculture and Fisheries Resource, Research, and Extension for Development Network (AFRREDN) on February 20, 2025, at Agua Frio Resort, Brgy Sta. Cruz, Koronadal City.
The MOU formalizes the establishment of AFRREDN, a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing research, resource-sharing, and extension services to support farmers and fisherfolks in the region. The partnership initiated by DA-XII aligns with national and regional development priorities, ensuring a coordinated effort to improve the agriculture and fisheries sectors in SOCCSKSARGEN.


The Extension Services Office (ESO) Director, Dr. Glyn G. Magbanua who represented the university in the event, emphasized USM’s commitment as a HEI to contributing to the success of the network.
“As a higher education institution, we fully commit to contribute to this network, thru fostering interdisciplinary research, enhancing knowledge dissemination, and strengthening community engagement, while working together to maximize resource efficiency to promote regional development, effectively contributing to the national economy.” She underscored.
“We further commit to contribute whatever we can, whenever we can to the collective effort of achieving the objectives for which this network was established…” She added.


Other signatories in the MOU, include: the Department of Agriculture XII, Bureau of Agricultural Research XII, Agricultural Training Institute XII, Department of Trade and Industry XII, Philippine Rubber Research Institute XII, Philippine Coconut Authority XII, DA-PhilRice Midsayap, Sultan Kudarat State University, Mindanao State University, Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology, Cotabato State University, South East Asian Institute of Technology, Southern Christian College, and the provincial governments of Sultan Kudarat and Cotabato.
Under the MOU, USM and AFRREDN will collaborate on research and development initiatives, extension programs, and capacity-building efforts to benefit farmers, fisherfolk, and other stakeholders in the agriculture and fisheries sector. This partnership underscores USM’s role in promoting sustainable development and improving livelihoods in Region 12.
