The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) through the Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO) conferred fifteen (15) Kakaw Awards, nine (9) Goma Awards, and seven (7) Kamagong Awards in celebration of the 124th Civil Service Anniversary on September 26, 2024 at the University Auditorium, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

As an institutional initiative, the University bestowed Kakaw Award to employees who rendered 10 to 15 years of continuous government service; Goma Award to employees with 20 to 25 years; and Kamagong Award to employees with 30 to 40 years.

BGen Donald M. Gumiran, the Commander of the 602nd Infantry Brigade Philippine Army, graced the ceremony as the guest of honor and speaker. In his speech, BGen Gumiran focused on the D-VUCAD concept of US Army War College that means Disruption, Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity, and Diversity. Referring to the concept, he said that status quo is constantly being challenged; disruption is no longer an exception, it is the new normal.  He also claimed that the nature of public service is undergoing a rapid transformation.

The future will demand even more of us, but it will also offer incredible opportunities to make a lasting impact. The next decade will see the rise of a new generation of public servants-servant heroes- who are agile, future-ready, and deeply committed to the principles of good governance and public service excellence.” He concluded.

This year’s Philippine Civil Service Anniversary is still anchored to its 10-year theme, “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant Heroes”.
