USM-ESO Conducts Capacity-Building on Training Designs, Completion Reports

Makilala, Cotabato – In time with Valentine’s Day, the University of Southern Mindanao Extension Services Office (USM-ESO), in partnership with the USM Hospital, Inter-Cultural Organizations’ Network for Solidarity and Peace (ICON-SP), and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Makilala, successfully conducted a community outreach program on February 14, 2025, at Barangay Bato Covered Court, Makilala, Cotabato.
Barangay Bato Captain Analyn T. Pastoril, alongside representatives from the Makilala LGU and the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Council, warmly welcomed USM-ESO Director Dr. Glyn G. Magbanua, the ESO staff and medical professionals from USM Hospital, including Dr. Annaleah B. Lasaga, Dr. Hartzyll B. Vergavera, and Rafael P. Aballera, RN, MAN. Also present were ICON-SP Executive Director Jocelyn H. Aquiatan, and members of her office.



The initiative provided intrinsic environmental and healthcare services to over 200 residents of Barangay Bato. The program included tree planting activities and distribution of fruit tree seedlings to promote ecological conservation. In addition, free medical consultation was conducted and medicines were given to ensure community health and well-being.


In her speech, Dr. Glyn Magbanua highlighted the importance of collaboration in community development.
“Itong community outreach ay isang patunay na kapag nagtulungan ang bawat isa, meron tayong makukuhang magandang bunga,” she emphasized.
The Indigenous People Mandatory Representative (IPMR) Datu Jolieto B. Piyang of Brgy. Bato also expressed his appreciation for the program.
“Abi nako nga ang USM puro sa academics lang naa pod diay [extension services], Salamat, USM.”, he stated.


The success of this outreach program highlighted the significance of environmental sustainability and accessible healthcare. It stands as a testament to the power of collective efforts in building a healthier and greener future for all.
