Kidapawan City, Cotabato– In celebration of the Farmers and Fisherfolk Month, the Office of the Kidapawan City Agriculturist partnered with the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) to share expertise and deliver lectures during the Farmers’ Forum on May 28, 2025, at Park-Lay Suites, Quirino Drive, Poblacion, Kidapawan City.

The forum, guided by the theme “Magsasaka at Mangingisda, Ang Inyong Kasipagan Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Kidapawan,” featured two distinguished faculty members from the USM College of Agriculture (CA) as resource speakers. Dr. Mel Chrisel A. Sales delivered a lecture on Soil Health and Nutrition, while Dr. Joeseph S. Quisado tackled Pests and Diseases of Agricultural Crops.

A total of 214 farmers from different barangays across the city took part in the event, including Ilomavis, Nuangan, Meohao, Perez, Poblacion, and several others.

The highlight of the forum was the interactive open forum session that followed the lectures. Drs. Sales and Quisado engaged directly with the farmers, answering questions related to agricultural practices and offering valuable insights to further enhance their farming techniques.

Mrs. Patricia Ebano, one of the participating farmers, expressed appreciation for the initiative highlighting the relevance of the lectures.

“Han-ay ug dali ra masabtan ang ilang gipangtudlo. Pasalamat ko kay magamit namo ang among mga natun-an karon sa among mga uma,” Mrs. Ebano shared.

The activity was organized in coordination with the University’s Extension Services Office (ESO), headed by Director Dr. Glyn G. Magbanua, reinforcing USM’s commitment to advancing agricultural development and strengthening its community engagement efforts.
