March 18, 2026
KABACAN, COTABATO — The University of Southern Mindanao (USM), through the Extension Services Office (ESO), visited Brgy. Cuyapon on March 17, 2026, to evaluate the effectiveness of the extension projects, “Capacity Building, Demonstration, and Enterprise Development of Maguindanaon Delicacies- Phase II (CBDEM-Delicacies)” and “Livelihood Enhancement for Vulnerable Communities to Elevate Lives and Unlock Potentials (LEVEL UP)- Phase I” for the Kabacan Moro Women’s Organization Inc. (KMWOI).
Training Specialist II Ritchel O. Torres spearheaded the activity, joined by CBDEM-Delicacies Phase II Project Leader Analyn A. Gonzales, CBDEM College Extension Coordinator Laurence Arjay Mamburam, and faculty member Roy B. Gacus. Student interns from the BS in Agricultural Extension and BS in Agricultural Economics programs facilitated the documentation of the proceedings.
During the visit, the monitoring team reviewed project milestones and evaluated how the two projects contributed to the holistic development of the Moro women beneficiaries.
Beyond acknowledging the projects’ positive impact on the improvement of their knowledge and skills in business management and Maguindanaon food processing techniques, beneficiary Baintan Makalnas emphasized the need for cooking materials to ensure the long-term sustainability of their livelihood.
“Maraming salamat sa USM dahil sa mga natutunan namin sa pagnegosyo sa dalawang projects. Sana next time may mga materials na ibigay sa amin para sa ikatatagal ng negosyo namin,” Makalnas expressed.
Meanwhile, Kagawad Billy B. Baldomero expressed hope that future USM projects would expand to include Christian and other ethnic groups within the community: “Sana sa mga susunod pa ay mapalawak ang target ng projects ninyo at isali rin natin ‘yung mga Christian and other ethnic groups,” he said.
The successful conduct of the activity underscored USM-ESO’s initiative to ensure that its projects reach grassroots communities and provide sustainable and holistic impacts to its target beneficiaries.
