Arakan, Cotabato – The University of Southern Mindanao Extension Services Office (USM-ESO) paid a courtesy visit to recently reelected Arakan Mayor Hon. Jeam D. Villasor on May 15, 2025, at the Office of the Municipal Mayor, Arakan, Cotabato.
During the visit, USM-ESO Director Dr. Glyn G. Magbanua expressed her commitment to fostering collaboration with partner communities by delivering essential services and implementing skills development training programs that are need-based and aligned with the University’s goals and thrusts.


Faculty members from the College of Trades and Industry, including Prof. Joel Misanes, Prof. Julbasar Sajiran, Prof. Marjorie Catuguran, and Prof. Samson Rapusa, attended the meeting.
Dr. Magbanua and Prof. Misanes led discussions on establishing an extension project in the area, including a needs assessment to tailor support based on the municipality’s priorities.
Among the programs requested by Mayor Villasor were skills development training and post-production processing, aimed at equipping out-of-school youth, women, and other underserved sectors. With relevant skills, the mayor also emphasized the municipality’s goal of increasing global competitiveness by preparing residents with the skills needed for employment abroad.
To support this initiative, Mayor Villasor designated Helma L. Labao, Senior Labor and Employment Officer at the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), to further coordinate and identify potential beneficiaries of the planned programs.
Dr. Magbanua committed to drafting a proposal for the potential extension project to enhance the municipality’s competitiveness and promote inclusive growth.
This collaborative effort highlights a shared commitment to empowering the community and addressing its most urgent needs, laying the foundation for sustainable local development.
