USM delegates from the University Student Government (USG) and Autonomous Student Government (ASG) received Testimonial of Appreciation in recognition of its outstanding participation during the 11th Philippines I Transform! Leaders’ Convention (PITLC), held on November 14–19, 2024, at Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City.

The USM team was composed of ASG President Joshua Q. Sarmiento, USG Senators Sallygirl Dino, and Reda Gayle Martin, and Legislative Secretary Zaldya Meir Pareja, under the supervision of ASG Adviser Dennis S. Muyco.

The convention, themed “A Decade of Action: Saving Our Seas, Saving Our Planet,” focused on sustainable development goals (SDGs) such as Climate Action, Responsible Consumption, and Life Below Water. USM delegates engaged in various competitions, to wit, Kabataan Fair, National Essay Writing Contest, and Extemporaneous Speech Contest.

Throughout the event, the delegates attended plenary sessions with speakers namely, Dr. Deo Florence Onda, EnP. Jhorace Tupas, and Mr. Joaquin Silvestre, who shared insights on marine biodiversity and the role of oceans in preserving the planet’s ecosystem. 

Legislative Secretary Zaldya Meir Pareja expressed her gratitude, saying, “My time at PITLC has been transformative. I’ve learned that true change starts with ourselves, and leadership is about taking bold action today.”

Meanwhile, USG President Kenny Floyd Montelija assures that the event will be echoed within the university to provide other student leaders the opportunity to participate and gain experience.

The delegates acknowledged the unwavering support of the USM President Francisco Gil N. Garcia, USM KCC Chancellor Ronielyn Pinsoy, USG President Kenny Floyd Montelija, USG Adviser Roselyn M. Clemen, and Ma’am Susan Mantawil, who ensured the success of the USM delegation’s participation.
