Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, USM President led a separate courtesy visit along with Prof. Renel Alucilja, USM Planning and Development Office Director, and Dr. Gideon S. Sumayo, the OIC Director of USM PALMA, to the Local Government Units (LGU) of Aleosan and Libungan—LGUs with USM extension classes, to solidify the established partnership and renew USM’s commitment to advancing quality education in the PPALMA area on July 17, 2025.
Hon. Eduardo C. Cabaya, MPA, Municipal Mayor of Aleosan, expressed his eagerness to continue supporting the academic endeavors of USM particularly in Aleosan through fulfilling their obligations in the signed agreements.
As a key show of support, he shared that the LGU hired all pioneering graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technician program and provided them with practical training while encouraging independent livestock ventures. According to Mayor Cabaya, Aleosan is paving a new way in gradually leaning in the direction of developing its livestock industry as an economic strategy to improve local economy, hence the mass hiring of Veterinary Technicians.
“Yung first graduates [VetTech], na hired naming lahat kasi gusto namin na mag undergo sila ng training under the LGU at the same time magtatag sila ng sarili nilang livestock industry.” Mayor Cabaya proudly narrated.

Meanwhile, Hon. Engr. Angel Rose “Apol” L. Cuan, the Municipal mayor of Libungan extended her immense support to USM Libungan through her commitment to provide more infrastructure projects optimized for the safety and convenience of the USM students. Mayor Cuan considered the rough, muddy, and dim-lit road as a hazard for the students going to and from the school premises.
“Yang USM, hindi ko iyan pababayaan,” Mayor Cuan promised, underscoring her personal commitment to education in honor of her late husband, former Mayor Christopher “Amping” Cuan Res (+), and in service of the broader Libungan community.

Prior to the Aleosan and Libungan engagements, President Pimentel met with the Office of the Municipal Mayor of Alamada, carrying the same goal of strengthening collaboration and academic impact across PPALMA.
President Pimentel emphasized USM’s enduring pledge to deliver accessible, relevant higher education. He also encouraged each municipal leader to support education comprehensively, from tertiary programs to foundational basic education.
With each LGU’s active support, USM is well-positioned to advance its mission of capacitating students to become agents of national development. The university’s unwavering dedication remains a driving force for sustainable educational progress in the Province and Southern Mindanao.
