USM Initiates 3rd Round of Talks with Arakan LGU for Skills Development Trainings

To establish a strong academic partnership, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) College of Medicine and the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) Faculty of Medicine of Malaysia, signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) on July 23, 2025 at the Office of the President, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
The Malaysian delegation, composed of Prof. Dr. Harmy Bin Mohd Yusoff, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Dr. Shaik Farid; and Prof. Dr. Azizul, both emergency medicine physicians, paid a courtesy call to USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel prior to the signing ceremony. Dr. Gio P. Someira and Dr. Abdul Alekhine Guiani, emergency medicine specialists from Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC), joined the group.
Under the Letter of Intent, the USM College of Medicine and UniSZA’s Faculty of Medicine agreed to engage in faculty exchange, conduct joint research, and organize academic and student exchange programs. The agreement includes sharing of expertise and use of institutional facilities to support mutually beneficial academic activities.
Following the signing, the visitors proceeded to the USM Hospital, received by USM Hospital Director Dr. Annaleah Lasaga. Right after, they also toured around the USM COM building.
Prof. Bryan Lloyd P. Bretaña, Director of the Office of International Affairs, assisted in facilitating the visit and coordinating the partnership activities. These were also initiated through the USM College of Medicine, under the deanship of Dr. Louise Cecilia B. Balajadia.
