June 10, 2024The College of Medicine (COM) of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) capacitated the medical clerks as they prepare for clinical duties through the skills laboratory training series at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (CMAHS) from June 4 to 6, 2024.
On the first day, various topics were discussed and executed, namely 1.) Gowning and Gloving: Mastering the essentials of aseptic techniques, 2.) ECG Reading: Decoding the heart’s electrical activity can be tricky, but our future doctors tackle it head-on 3.) Lecture Series that covered several topics that the students need to know before hitting the hospital.
On the second day, the medical clerks executed IV insertion, an in-depth lecture on the importance of the aseptic technique was discussed, and a thoughtful discussion on the physician’s role in the community also transpired.
Further, the medical clerks engaged in lectures and hands-on practice focused on intubation and nasogastric tube insertion. Additionally, they participated in a specialized session on Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS).
Moreover, on the fourth day, the medical students mastered crucial life-saving techniques through comprehensive adult and pediatric CPR training that every doctor needs.
In its third year of operation, the USM-COM faculty doctors reassured that the medical students are prepared from patient interaction to advanced diagnostics. The comprehensive training is essential in preparing these students for real-world medical scenarios and becoming compassionate and proficient healthcare professionals.
