Fresh from producing its first five pioneering graduates, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) College of Law opened a new chapter as it welcomed its incoming law students through an orientation program on July 6, 2026, at the USM-Kidapawan City Campus in Sudapin, Kidapawan City.
The activity gathered incoming freshmen, higher-year law students, lawyers, judges, and university officials to introduce the new students to the university’s academic policies, procedures, student services, and other essential information as they begin their legal education.
USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel welcomed the new students and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to strengthening the College of Law. He reminded them that the study of law is a calling that demands discipline, perseverance, and purpose. While the journey ahead will not be easy, he encouraged them to remain committed to the path they have chosen.
He also shared his optimism for the future of the college, expressing his hope for the establishment of a dedicated USM College of Law campus. According to him, the university administration continues to work toward making this vision a reality.

Meanwhile, Ariane Joy J. Escamilla, one of the students of the college, shared lessons she learned in law school. She encouraged the incoming students to focus on their own growth instead of comparing themselves with others.
“Never compare your journey with someone else’s because we do not know what we are carrying. Learn to be kind to yourself and to one another,” Escamilla emphasized.
She also reminded them that success in law school requires discipline, consistency, and a strong support system.
“In law school, kanang pa-unya-unya mahulog na lang jud na “sa patay exam na ugma”. Do not do anything now that you will regret tomorrow… Find your people… to remind you that you were never meant to survive law school alone,” she spoke.

Further, Jessie Francisco Enid Jr., the interim student council president, expressed his commitment to do their responsibilities as officers of the student council.
“We commit and ensure that your law school journey will be supported, your rights will be protected and make sure that your voice will be heard,” the student council president highlighted. “Law school is not a simple journey as majority in this hall experienced, law school more on academic pressure, for we are shaped to be defender of peoples’ lives, liberty, and property in the future.”
Spearheaded by the College of Law Dean, Atty. Freddie H. Baynosa II, the orientation reaffirmed its commitment to guiding aspiring lawyers with the knowledge, values, and support they need to succeed in the profession.
