The Gender and Development (GAD) office of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) spearheaded the celebration of the 2025 National Women’s Month at the University Auditorium, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato, on March 27, 2025.
Quenielyn L. Durendes, Director of Finance Management Services, represented USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel. She said the month serves as a time to honor the strength, intelligence, and courage of all women in the community. “This year’s theme reminds us that the progress of every woman is a step toward a better future for our generation,” Durendes said.
Moreover, Myra Dulay, Municipal Councilor of the Local Government Unit (LGU) Kabacan, encouraged students to value education and recognize the sacrifices of their parents, especially mothers, saying, “Babae, ilaw at haligi ng tahanan, kayang-kaya ng kababaihan.” Dulay emphasized that women’s abilities drive positive change in the community. “Ang lakas ng kababaihan ay hindi lang sa bahay, kundi sa lahat ng sector ng ating lipunan,” She concluded.
Also, Senator Risa Hontiveros, in her recorded message, reminded everyone that women remain the most vulnerable in society. She called for continued efforts to ensure freedom and protection for women, and said, “Our voices matter, and our ambitions are worth pursuing today and always.” She urged that Women’s Month serves as a call to action to uphold women’s rights and equality.
Guided by its theme: “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas”, the celebration underscored USM’s commitment to strengthen gender equality and foster an inclusive environment for women.
