
USM Professor Shares Expertise on Ethical Standards in PE at International Conference

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Alumni House of the Mindanao Institute of Technology–University of Southern Mindanao (MIT-USM) alumni took place on August 1, 2025, at the MIT-USM Alumni House, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
The construction of the building is scheduled to be completed within 110 calendar days, commencing on July 29, 2025, and concluding on November 15, 2025. Upon completion, the building will feature a variety of functional spaces, including a conference room, office rooms, living quarters, a pantry, a waiting area, and control rooms.
Hon. Ma. Alana Samantha Taliño-Santos, Representative of Cotabato’s 3rd District, joined the ceremony. In her speech, the congresswoman noted the strong partnership between the provincial government and USM through its collaboration on various development initiatives.
“We are not only creating building and infrastructure for the faculty members, staff, and students, but we also build relationships with everyone for the years to come,” She spoke.
To show his support, Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, President USM, actively participated in the event and emphasized that the university’s alumni are its true backbone. He expressed that the new Alumni House will bring great joy to graduates of USM, including those currently residing abroad, whenever they visit the campus. Dr. Pimentel also underscored the important role alumni play in the university’s decision-making processes.
Meanwhile, Hon. Evangeline P. Guzman also attended the activity. She remarked that USM has become a vital pillar of the municipality’s economy and expressed her hope for continued support and collaboration between USM, the Province of Cotabato, and the Municipality of Kabacan.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Paul John B. Ongcoy, the MIT-USM Alumni President, expressed his thanks to the Congresswoman and to everyone for the support of building the Alumni House.
“We accept this project with gratitude, responsibility, and with great hope… let this building be a lasting testament to what we can accomplish when we come together for something greater than ourselves,” Dr. Ongcoy remarked.
MIT-USM Alumni officers, personnel from Cotabato province and Municipality of Kabacan, USM faculty members, and staff attended the activity.
