December 3, 2024The University of Southern Mindanao secured top over-all podium finishes in both the sports and socio-cultural events at the recently concluded Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools, Inc. (MASTS) 2024 Friendship Games held last November 23-30, 2024 at Pagadian City, Province of Zamboanga del Sur.
USM ranked 3rd over-all, bagging 54 golds, 63 silver, and 33 bronze medals across various sporting events. Notably, USM made a historic achievement in Swimming, securing 41 medals, one of the highest single-event tallies in the university’s history. The university also excelled in other sports, including Karatedo, Pencak Silat, Softball, Athletics, Biking, Badminton, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Dance Sports, and Arnis, among others.
Meanwhile, USM earned the top over-all spot for the socio-cultural events after accumulating 111 points. Contributing to the bulk of points were the 1st place finishes in Story Telling, Dagliang Talumpati, Indigenous Dance, Vocal Solo (Kundiman), and Instrumental Solo (Classical and Acoustic Guitar).
USM was also recognized for having the biggest delegation among the 35 state universities and colleges that participated in the said events.
This year’s MASTS Friendship Games were hosted by J.H. Cerilles State College, in partnership with the Province of Zamboanga del Sur.
The MASTS Friendship Games is an annual gathering of state universities and colleges across Mindanao that showcases different sporting and socio-cultural events.
