October 15, 2020Meet the USM alumna who works to build a satellite
October 20, 2020To honor the great contributions of University of Southern Mindanao’s fourth President Dr. Kundo E. Pahm, the University Learning Resource Center (ULRC) was renamed Kundo E. Pahm Learning Resource Center (KEPLRC).
Dr. Pahm became the president of USM from 1988 to 1994. During his six-year term, he managed to take USM to greater heights through his good leadership and numerous accomplishments.
Among the many infrastructures built during his term, Dr. Pahm also envisioned establishing an edifice which would house the vast collections of learning materials of the library in various formats. As a result, a two-story building was erected to serve the learning, teaching, research, and extension services of the USM academic community.
Dr. Pahm died on October 5, 2019 at the age of 85.
“Even before ULRC adopted the concepts and model of Library 4.0 and opened the newly refurbished building on August 5, 2019, It was my plan to propose the renaming of the library in honor of our late great President Dr. Kundo E. Pahm,” said Dr. Anita C. Sornito, director of KEPLRC. “The proposal was presented and approved as per USM Board of Regents Resolution Number 104, series of 2017.”
The historical installation and unveiling of Dr. Kundo E. Pahm Learning Resource Center metal marker happened on September 21, 2020. USM President Dr. Francisco Gil N. Garcia, members of USM Administrative Council, faculty and staff, and the children of Dr. Kundo E. Pahm, namely: Dr. Kundo M. Pahm, Jr., Dr. Hanudin M. Pahm, and Ms. Hannah Bai M. Pahm-Galay graced the event.
One of the ceremony’s highlights was the donation of Kundo E. Pahm memorabilia. The family members of Dr. Pahm presented the keepsakes to USM President Dr. Garcia and KEPLRC Director Dr. Sornito. The Dr. Pahm memorabilia would be displayed in the Memorabilia Section together with the collections of USM founder Hadja Fatima Matabay N. Plang.
Dr. Kundo M. Pahm, Jr and Dr. Hanudin M. Pahm recalled the fond memories of their father in the University and expressed their gratitude to USM for giving honor to their father. “We cherish the significant contributions by Dr. Kundo E. Pahm and with this historic event of renaming the University library in his honor, it really shows how the University values the legacy left behind by one of USM’s greatest leaders,” Dr. Garcia said.
