The SOCCSKSARGEN Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SOXAARRDEC) together with its host institution, the University of Southern Mindanao- Extension Services Office (USM-ESO) joined the Philippine Rice Research Institute – Midsayap Experimental Station (PhilRice-MES) Lakbay Palay sa DA-PhilRice on September 07, 2022 in Bual Norte, Midsayap, Cotabato with the theme: “Ani ay Sigurado sa Teknolohiyang Garantisado” .
The field day aims to promote new rice varieties and rice-based production technologies to help farmers become more productive in their harvests.
SOXAARRDEC RRDCC Chairperson and the new OIC-Director of the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR), Dr. Sailila E. Abdula graced the Farmer’s Field Day. He said in his inspirational speech that agriculture is not only about production and technology. He stressed the holistic side of agriculture.
“If we do good, do what is right, and perform our assigned functions, despite all the challenges we encounter [as farmers or as workers] of the government, we will never be forgotten.”
The PhilRice-MES OIC Director, Mr. Ommal H. Abulkadil, encouraged the farmers to trust Science to improve production and increase harvest, yield, and profit.
“Sa pamamagitan ng Lakbay Palay sa PhilRice ay maibahagi at maipaabot namin [PhilRICE] ang mga bagong kaalaman, impormasyon, at teknolohiya upang mapaghusay ang pagsasaka at maiwasto ang di akmag kasanayan ng mga magsasaka” Mr. Abdulkadil emphasized in his speech.
The activity was attended by rice farmers from Midsayap and from neighboring municipalities. A short field tour was conducted to showcase the rice varietal technology demonstration, post-harvest facilities, Palayamanan Plus Model farm, Fertilizer Derby, and Abonong Swak demonstration farm. Exhibits of the Consortium and USM-ESO, private agricultural companies and other partner agencies were also the highlights of the activity.
