Kabacan Cotabato- The SOCCSKSARGEN Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SOXAARRDEC) conducted a training on crafting policy from research and an overview on enterprise development on September 01, 2022 at USM Hostel, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato. Resource persons from Socio-Economics Research Division of DOST-PCAARRD namely, Ms. Mia Barbara D. Aranas,  Unit Head of the Policy Analysis and Information Management and Ms. Meliza F. Abeleza, the Division’s Assistant Director graced the training with 20 participants from the Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs).
CMI representatives presented outputs out from the exercise made by the resource persons. The training aims to capacitate the CMI representatives in crafting polices from research as well as completely understand the Policy Analysis and Advocacy banner program of DOST-PCAARRD. According to Blessie Justine Arellano, one of the participants from MSU-GSC, “May baon na kami para sa mga kasama namin.” She added that it is relatively easy to write but it really needs the conviction that she learned in the training. In addition, Dr. Jill D. Villanueva, the PRRI representative, said that their team [PRRI] have a tough time crafting policy in the 6 Ps of their DOST-funded researches since they do not have enough background about it. She also highlighted the points she learned that policies can also be created while conducting a research not only after the research is implemented that can be used as entry points for LGUs. Ms. Aranas shared her gratitude to the participants for being receptive with the excellent outputs. She added that she looks forward to transform the outputs into policy briefs. Ms. Abeleza congratulated the participants and underscored that she felt honored to  meet researchers in the region. In her closing remarks, Dr. Josephine R. Migalbin, the consortium director, said that she was inspired by the outputs presented by the participants and reassured that these will not only be kept in the archives but will make sure to publish it as policy brief of the consortium.
