Kabacan, Cotabato Members of the Office of the University Research and Innovation Center (OURIC) of Saint Louis University (SLU) visited the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) on April 11, 2025, to gain insights into research and development (R&D) and technologies in food processing.

The visit was part of a collaborative project with Ghent University, Belgium, which aims to integrate agricultural waste management and assess potential food processing strategies for highland vegetables. One of the project’s key components is identifying best practices and technologies from partner institutions.

The team was led by SLU-OURIC Director Dr. Ritchel L. Lamadrid, who also heads the Food Upcycling Project, which explores agricultural waste management and food processing strategies for highland vegetables.

During the visit, Dr. Lamadrid and her team met with Mr. Harem Roca, Head of the High Value Crops Processing Center, and Mr. Rezin Cabantug, Science Research Specialist, and toured USM’s High Value Crops Processing Center, Food Processing Laboratory, and Cacao Post-Harvest Processing Center, where they explored various agricultural products and equipment used in food processing.

The visit aimed to exchange ideas and evaluate USM’s food processing innovations, with SLU seeking to apply learnings to their own research initiatives and foster future collaborations.
