Saliling discusses HR best practices in 18th RCHRP Convention

Engr. Willie Jones B. Saliling, Chief Learning Architect of the Linang Tao Academy and former HRMDO Director presented the best practices in human resources management of USM in the recently concluded 18th Regional Convention of the Regional Council of Human Resource Practioners (RCHRP), XII, Inc. on September 12-15, 2023 at Grand Summit Hotel, General Santos City.

In his talk on “HR Role in Virtual World of Work”, he outlined the different roles a human resource practitioner performs in a digitally-enabled workplace such as Futures Thinker, Digital Transformer, VUCA Navigator and Strategic Communicator. Using these roles, he narrates how the university hurdled the different challenges in operations particularly during the pandemic. He discussed the need to be open-minded of the possibilities of the future and told participants on USM’s on-going digital transformation initiatives in HR. Among the innovations introduced were the Enhanced Daily Time Record (EDTR), the Dynamic Candidates Assessment System (DYCAS), webSPMS, Gawad USM, Linang Tao Academy, among others.

He mentioned that the EDTR is being used as an online performance monitoring and contact tracing tool. He also discussed the Dynamic Candidates Assessment System (DYCAS) – a digitalized version of the 9-box grid of potential and performance assessment for recruitment and promotion. He also outlined the use of data analytics in screening nomination for rewards and recognition through the Gawad Uliran sa Serbisyong Mahusay – PRAISE. WebSPMS is also currently being developed to connect EDTR to generate real-time IPCR and OPCR.

Linang Tao Academy is the online learning platform that hosts courses in proactive recruitment and digital onboarding, progressive layering competency enhancement, workplace innovation hubs, and career lifelong learning. Both SINTIDO and ASSIST boot camps are hosted in Linang Tao Academy.

Engr. Saliling is a Professor of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering and concurrently designated as the Executive Assistant for Strategic Initiatives towards Smart University under the Office of the University President.
