The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) and the Office of Provincial Agriculturists (OPAg), Cotabato Province, collaborated in a Strategic Planning Workshop on June 10 to 11, 2024, at the USM Commercial Building, Kabacan, Cotabato.

This collaboration stemmed from a productive exploratory meeting on May 2, 2024, spearheaded by Cotabato Provincial Board member Jonathan M. Tabara, where the province expressed its interest in USM technologies for the community.

Discussions focused on implementing USM innovations in food processing, new technologies on cereals, inland fisheries, fish processing-bio-flock technology on hito, organic best practices for pests and diseases and rural-based organizations, bearing fruits out of season, ornamentals, machine on cacao drying, methane gas technology, environmental conservation, and tools on monitoring and evaluation. The partnership aims to enhance productivity and sustainability while empowering local farmers with modern techniques.

Over seventy (70) participants from OPAg and USM gathered to integrate USM’s technological advancements into local agricultural practices. Key leaders included former Regional Executive Director Dr. Amalia Jayag-Datukan, Engr. Elena E. Ragonton, and Mr. Ruel Villanueva from OPAg.

The collaboration signifies USM’s commitment to regional development through education and research, supported by Cotabato Province’s proactive approach to adopting advanced agricultural solutions.
