Nescafé Philippines granted the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) ₱2.5 million under its advocacy program “Gisingin ang Mundo: Tasa ng Pag-asa.” The fund will support 100 qualified student grantees. The awarding ceremony took place on October 23, 2025, at One Ayala, Makati City.

The grant aims to help students whose parents are coffee farmers, giving them better access to education while uplifting local farming communities.

The program extended a total of ₱10 million in financial support to four state universities and colleges in Mindanao—namely, the USM, Central Mindanao University (CMU), Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), and the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP).

During the awarding ceremony, Celestine V. Sebios, a fourth-year BS Agriculture student majoring in Plant Pathology, along Dr. Shandra Gonsang, the head of the Scholarship Department of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), represented the USM.  She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to both USM and Nescafé for the opportunity and support.

Thankful po ako sa USM for their support throughout the event at pagpili po sa akin na mag-represent sa college. Gusto ko rin po magpasalamat kay USM President Dr. Jonald Pimentel, kay Ma’am Shandra Gonsang, kay Sir Efren Magulama, at kay Ma’am Monaira Sumael,” she said.

Most especially, sobrang thankful po ako sa Nescafé for their program. Isa po itong once-in-a-lifetime na experience at isang napakalaking opportunity po nito sa akin bilang isang mag-aaral,” she added.

Through its “Gisingin ang Mundo: Tasa ng Pag-asa” program, Nescafé continues to support students from coffee-farming families and honor the vital role that farmers play in the country’s coffee industry.
