The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) continues the Kapihan sa Aklatan initiative at the USM Kundo E. Pahm Learning Resource Center (KEPLRC) with the celebration of World Water Day and World Engineering Day on March 03, 2025 at KEPLRC, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
In her welcome message, Prof. Susan Martinez highlighted the partnership of the University Library with the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT).
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to this special edition of Kapihan sa Aklatan, where we highlight engineering and water resource management as key to sustainable development,” She underscored.
She stressed the significance of academic institutions in fostering discussions that lead to effective solutions. “Our libraries serve as knowledge hubs, fostering discussions that drive awareness and action. Through this initiative, we support education, research, and community engagement in solving global challenges,” she added.





Meanwhile, in an interview, Engr. Jay Navaluna, a faculty member from CEIT and the focal person for the activity, narrated USM’s initiative for the World Water Day. He emphasized the connection of the initiative to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). The World Water Day activities of USM is expected to take place on the 22nd of March.
Experts, faculty members, students, and advocates participated in the discussions on responsible engineering and innovative water management solutions. The event reinforced USM’s role in academic and environmental advocacy.
With Kapihan sa Aklatan continuing, USM remains committed to promoting learning, innovation, and problem-solving. Events like these encourage next generation engineers and environmental advocates to contribute to a sustainable future.
