Bringing the name of the University of Southern Mindanao, the USM Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (USM-JPIA) once again stood out after gathering multiple awards during the 17th JPIA Region XII Annual Regional Convention and Region XII JPIA Annual Awards held on May 10-12, 2024 in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

USM-JPIA reigned overall 2nd runner-up in the convention and 2nd runner-up in the Academic League Category. Notably, they also won the Most Outstanding Local Chapter in Region XII. Meanwhile, Ms. Riena Lene Gazo, the USM-JPIA President, was awarded Most Outstanding Local Chapter President. Further, Mark Lester Cambas was acknowledged as Outstanding JPIAn for the JPIA Region XII federation year 2023-2024.

Becoming the Most Outstanding Local Chapter President (MOLCP) of Region XII was never my goal. To be honest, ang always ko lang po talaga [sinasabi] is kahit na walang MOLCP basta makuha lang ng USM ang Most Outstanding Local Chapter (MOLC) of Region XII kasi more than enough na po yan para sa akin as the head of the organization.” Gazo underscored in an online interview.

In an interview, Prof. Sandra Angela A. Bangcaya, the adviser of USM-JPIA, stated: “The Accountancy Department is incredibly grateful for the hard work and enthusiasm of the students. This success would not have been possible without their tireless efforts and dedication. The department is also grateful to its faculty members for their unending support to their students.

Both Gazo and Bangcaya extended their gratitude to USM President Francisco Gil N. Garcia for the unwavering support that resulted in a positive outcome.

Ten universities and colleges from the SOCCSKSARGEN Region attended the convention.
