With strong connections with other institutions, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM received delegates from Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), Mati City, for a benchmarking activity on March 13, 2024.

DOrSU visited the USM Graduate School, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Psychology, Philosophy, and Political Science programs of the College of Arts and Social Sciences. Discussions focused on the modes of learning, manuscript processes, class sizes, and laboratory facilities.

The delegates also extended their visit to the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC at USM), where discussions revolved around practical aspects such as barn operations, buffalo diets, and projects like Artificial Insemination.

In an interview, Dr. Roy G. Ponce, the President of DOrSU, considered conducting the benchmarking at USM as he believes that USM is one of the premier universities in Mindanao, specifically its outstanding contributions to agriculture education.

What adds to the significance of the activity is the connection of the two universities through the graduates of USM who became the workforce and administrators of the then DOSCST and now DOrSU.   The shared expertise and experiences of individuals who once were part of the USM community are now contributing to DOrSU’s academic landscape.

The activity signifies USM’s commitment to forge and maintain strong linkages anchored to bringing positive change in its community.
