The Mindanao Tech, the official student publication of the University of Southern MIndanao (USM), is heading to Upi, Maguindanao del Norte today for the first leg of Journalism on Wheels (JOW) 2023. JOW is one of the extension programs of MIntech which aims to extend its services to young journalists through hands-on training, lecture, and workshop.
In a letter dated March 20, Upi Mayor Hon. Ma. Rona Cristina Piang-Flores invited Mintech adviser Prof. Lloyd Anton Von Colita and 12 more staffers to serve as resource speakers for the two-day Journalism Writeshop sponsored by the Local Youth Development Office of Upi.
Mintech staffers who will serve as resource speakers are OIC-Editor in Chief Rico John Gorieza, OIC-Associate Editor Vic Angelo Tuquib, OIC-Creative Editor Marwil Billones, Features Editor Shahera Kadatuan, Literary Editor Kenneth Audencial, Multimedia Editor Norhassan Maguid, HR Manager Clynei Mag-aso, Externals Manager Sittie Sailah Patak, Photo Editor Jan Roy Untalan, Art Editor Keith VN Aragon, Digital Development Editor Mohammad Yusop, and Photographer Kasmer Kalipapa.
“We have invited ten campus journalists from nine secondary schools in Upi to participate in the writeshop,” said Upi Information Officer Mr. Jeffrey Allen Paclibar, who is also a graduate of BS Development Communication in USM.
The first-ever JOW was conducted for the City Schools Division of Tacurong on January 11, 2019. The 2nd JOW was held at Notre Dame of Kabacan on March 9 and Notre Dame of Tacurong College on August 23, 2019.
“In this fourth edition of JOW, we will make sure our time in Upi will be productive. We are excited to meet the young journalists and share to them the lessons we have acquired from our NSPC years until now that we are staffers of Mintech,” Gorieza shared.
