This 2023, two events will remount their fortress in the name of genomics. First would be the annual celebration of the discovery of the double helix structure of DNA; second, would be the commemoration of the completion of the Human Genome Project.
In the 1950s, James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins marked their names in human history as they announced their discovery, stating that the basic unit of heredity โ the DNA โ is a three-dimensional structure; a double-helix. This paved way for basic and in-depth studies on biological subjects.
Not only that this showered light on molecular research, but on greater grounds, it elevated science. Years after, in 1963, the three โ forever engraving their legacy โ were awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize.
