The homegrown short film festival, and first in the entire Cotabato Province, will witness five State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Mindanao compete for the 10th edition of Lantaw Short Film Festival this year.
Five finalists are from Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Central Mindanao University (CMU), Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology (CFCST), and University of Southern Mindanao (USM).
November last year, these five SUCs competed in the Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools (MASTS) in Mati, Davao Oriental. Two months later, they will grace the stage of Lantaw Short Film Festival organized by The Mindanao Tech.
“We are beyond elated to welcome to the competition these SUCs. Now we can say we are making yet another record; it’s the first time Zamboanga City, Musuan, Arakan, and Malita are represented in Lantaw Festival,” shared MIntech EIC and Lantaw Chair Juan Justin Gonzales.
For ten years now, Lantaw has continued to provide an outlet of expression for filmmakers in the hopes of discovering the next award-winning directors, cinematographers, and actors that Mindanao can be proud of.
Since 2010, 48 short films have been produced and screened by Lantaw. In 2019, Lantaw made history when a group of filmmakers from Loyola College, Chennai, India joined the festival.
This year, 10 short films shall be added to the roster as Lantaw celebrates its 10th anniversary. Mintech is in its full swing to make the festival a success after its two year hiatus after the pandemic.
Three best short films shall be chosen. Gold Distinction shall be awarded Php30,000 and a trophy; Silver Distinction with Php20,000 and a trophy, and Bronze Distinction with Php10,000 and a trophy. The other seven films shall receive a consolation prize of Php5,000 each.
The Screening and Awarding shall be held on Friday, January 27, 1:00 pm at the USM Auditorium.
